Instead of learning within the confines of four walls of a classroom, imagine learning in a greenspace filled with plant life, beside your fellow peers. Such is the vision the Elkhart Education Foundation (EEF) has for elementary schools in the Elkhart community.
The foundation is looking to build “learning gardens” in all 14 elementary schools across the Elkhart Community Schools district.
For the time being, the group is starting its pilot program at two elementary schools, Hawthorne and Monger.
